Well first he though of what kind of cans he wanted to use, About 10 years ago Model Airplane Magazine had a competition for the first person to build a Flying model made from soda cans - had to fly 100 yds to qualify.So he too the challenge.they made the car plan go 100 yds. They won first place this would not happen if they didn't have good research

This shows how he built a scratch rc Ultra Lite Slow Flyer airplane. It has a 47" wingspan and is made from wood and 3/4" pink foam insulation sheet.He also contoured the wings with a hot wire cutter that he made out of a guitar string and car battery charger. He also used the gearbox from an older plane, got a 3 channel radio on ebay for $10 and cheap mini servos from hong kong for $1.00. The plan flys like it was a real shop rc airplane
